Khatiba Grais first became involved in Sufism in 1973 through the Dances of Universal Peace. In 1975 she received initiation into the Sufi Order of the West from Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan and that same year became a founding member of the Abode of the Message, a Sufi Community in upstate New York.
Currently she is a Representative of the Sufi Order, a Cheraga (minister) in the Church of All, and a retreat guide. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Golden Gate Sufi Circle (a California Bay-area association of the Sufi Islamia Ruhaniat Society) and is a certified dance leader for the Dances of Universal Peace. In her professional life, Khatiba is a Marriage and Family Therapist, practicing in Santa Rosa, California. She is married and has a teenage daughter.
